Hello! Hiya! How You Doin’?

Hello Everyone,
I’m Latanya aka Crafty Scribbles. I’m a reader. Well, obviously this is a book blog. Reading and enjoying the process is a must. Why not share my joy with others like me – or unlike me, pleasant conversation and all being key?

What’s there to know? Well, along with reading, I write stories. I’d like to publish them (I’ve published poetry, which is cool, too). But, until I do, I hope to share my views on the writings of others.

Hue’s Reviews: Allegedly

Struggle porn irks me.

What’s struggle porn? It’s constant pain, struggle, or hardship-marked entertainment disguised as “message opportunities”. Books, movies, t.v. shows, and music are the main platforms. Find a person, particularly one of color, and harp as much pain as you can on them with murky messages or none presented by its end.

Allegedly adds itself to the genre.

With a strong beginning and a middling middle, Tiffany Jackson presented a horrific tale of injustice, vindication, and the desire to grow with an ending that totally negates the story’s path.

Sentence to six years for a baby’s death (allegedly), Mary B. Addison struggles to determine who she is, despite others’ opinions. Did she murder the baby? What is she hiding? Is she the real monster under the closet?

She deals with a horrid justice system denying her voice since the incident. But, Mary desires better, if she’s innocent. Allegedly. She wants to take her SATs, attend college, and raise her baby. Oh, yes. She’s pregnant. We already have Push. Precious told her story. Reboots never work.

Disclaimer: I work with students living in group homes and within the juvenile system. I do not speak from inexperience. While experience varies, take my opinion as you will.

Help Me…I Think I’m Falling

I have a bona fide sickness. I clicked two guaranteed arcs today and I put my name in a drawing for another. Along with pre-orders this month and in August, several committed arcs, and, at least, 20 new purchases I already, I’m staring at a book avalanche this summer and early fall.

S.O.S

First world problems. Totally self-inflicted. Totally nuts.

Top Ten Tuesday: My Summer 2017 TBR

(Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.)

Cute pedicures. Cool glasses of lemonade. Chic sundresses and sandals. Summer’s coming. Well, that’s almost every day of the year (I live in Southern California, sue me!).

But, for those pining for summer’s kiss, it’s arriving fast.

For readers, summer’s promise brings more time to relax and read. My TBR’s an avalanche (I’m not complaining). But, I’ve created a list of ten books, I definitely plan to read.

However, I do have some rules for reading this summer.

  • Nothing too deep. Summer’s for relaxing, right?
  • Fast pace. Summer brings me extra time, but the season also brings extra distraction (e.g. my children are home, festivals, bright sunshine). I need to read fast.

Here goes…
